MIDBURN - ISRAEL'S BURNING MAN
The Midburn event is the Israeli extension of the American famous Burning Man event (which takes place at Black Rock City in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada). For 5 days, a temporary city is set up in the Negev desert, creating a platform which allows a communal life style, creativity, art and radical self-expression. Theme Camps are created with bars, clubs, lecture areas and relaxation areas. Artists pave the desert floor with giant, interactive art installations. Thousands of participants, singles, couples and families gather in the middle of the Negev desert and practice extreme self-reliance where living conditions are among the harshest in Israel due to the extreme heat and constant dust storms. The participants provide for themselves without money creating a city which has an insanely chaotic yet super-organized flow. At the end of the event the huge art installations are burned in big ceremonies (hence the name "burning man") and the city disappears as if it never existed.
