THE LAST TANNER

In the past, before the massive import era from China started, there were close to seventy flourishing factories in Israel which dealt with skins processing. Today they are all gone, leaving only one last factory with its old machines, trying to survive. Processing the skins is a complicated process which incorporates many steps that take sometimes few weeks and involves hard physical work. One of the things that helped the factory survive are the leathers it produces for the Ultra-Orthodox community, especially for the making of Tefillin. These leathers have to be processed and supervised by Jewish workers.
